Coconut Bun

Coconut Bun

One of my favorite childhood snacks, It was a joy to recreate this stuffed deliciousness.

Grated coconut filling combined with other nuts creates a heavenly taste that’s unforgettable.

What do you need

Used Measuring (1 Cup = 250ml)

For Base

  • 1 cup all purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp instant yeast

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 60 ml warm milk

  • 50 ml oil

For Filling

  • 1/2 cup grated coconut

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 4 cardamom (crushed)

  • 1/2 cup Almond flakes, raisin, tutti frutti

  • 1 tbsp ghee


  • Take a wide bowl, mix all the dry ingredients one by one under Base list .

  • Now pour warm milk and oil, mix it again. [PIC 1]

  • Knead everything together to form a soft dough. [PIC 2]

  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit for an hour or until the dough rise doubled in size.

Let’s prepare filling

  • Mix grated coconut, sugar, dry fruits and nuts (I used almond flakes, raisin, tutti frutti) and crushed cardamon . [PIC 3]

  • Add ghee and mix it evenly. Our filling is ready. [PIC 4]

  • Once the dough rises twice its size, Punch it to release the air and knead it well. [PIC 5]

  • Divide the dough into two separate portions (2:3 ratio). Wrap it again and set it aside for 15 mins. [PIC 6]

  • Roll and flatten the two separate dough by using a rolling pin. [PIC 7]

  • Place the smaller flattened dough on the baking pan. Spread the filling evenly. [PIC 8]

  • Place the bigger flattened dough on the top of the filling and carefully seal the edges. Let it sit for 10-15 mins. [PIC 9]

Let’s Bake

  • Brush the top with butter. [PIC 10]

  • Bake at 180°C for 25 mins. [PIC 11]

  • Allow it cool down and cut it into desired shapes.
